Personal Comments: I have been over weight for about 22 years. I really want to have surgery as I have tried everything else to no avail. My insurance doesn't pay for any weight loss treatment so I am going to try and pay for it mayself. My hobby is camping we have a 5th wheel trailer and go as often as possible. I have had a change of heart after doing more research and I am now going to have RNY gastric bypass. My surgeon is Dr. Dougals Olsen at Centennial in Nashville. Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: I am no longer going to use Dr. Ponce I have chosen Dr. Douglas Olsen at the Cenntenal center in Nashville. I have my first appointment on Nov.2 04 My first impression of him was that he is very knowlegable about what he does. The office staff is very informative, understanding, Kind, and helpful.

Personal Comments: 01/04/2006 - I am now one year out. I am down to 202 lbs, and have 52 lbs to loose in order to reach my goal. I just checked my BMI and I am at 29.8....that is considered "overweight". I am no longer considered "obese" by medical standards! I didn't realize how that would make me feel until just now. I have been obese since I was in high school...even before. I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and I can't wait to be "normal". I have never felt better in my life. Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: There are nothing but good things to say about Dr. Houston and his staff at Centennial. I had 3 friends at work who had Dr. Houston as their surgeon. They each loved him, and his staff...and so do I. Dr. Houston was extremely informative of the benefits and the dangers of the surgery during my consultation. He was also up front with me about the fact that it was not going to be easy, and it would take a lot of hard work and dedication to the program to meet my goal. I liked the fact that he was honest about those things. The aftercare program at the Center for the Treatment of Obesity at Centennial Medical Center is the most comprehensive I have yet to see. Believe me, I really did my research before choosing Dr. Houston. I even looked into going to Dallas! Attending seminars and getting information from the surgeons you are considering is extremely important! I can't emphasize that enough to any of you out there contemplating this life-changing surgery.

Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: He took alot of time at our consultation and explained everything thoroughly, including risks. He had a good sense of humor about some personal situation that happened while we were in his office. He was very professional at the same time. He has one nurse who is very busy but kind and caring. I did think it odd that while I was in the hospital that he never looked at my incisions. Then I thought how much trust he has in his nursing staff in the hospital. They probably gave hime a report and he didn't feel the need to follow behind them. I was VERY, VERY thankful that he does not send patients home with the drain ports from the incisions. I told him by doing so, I was able to immediately be more active and that I started walking on the treadmill the day I got home from the hospital. He was able to work around some scar tissue that I had and performed the sugery laproscopically. What a relief to wake up and find that out.

Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: Dr. Olsen was very nice and informative. I had brought a lot of questions with me to ask but he answered almost all of them before I had a chance to even ask. Now I've had the surgery and my impression of him is the same. I had an infection to come up around my belly button from one of the incisions and I was so scared it would hurt when I had to go in and let him reopen the incision. But he was so easy with me and kept asking if he was hurting me. He really does seem to care about his patients feelings. The office staff is wonderful also. I would recommend him to anyone who is considering this surgery. He is also very strict about the aftercare, if there is ever a problem he will make sure to take care of it. I would give him a 10 out of 10, Thanks Dr. Olsen!

Personal Comments: Press play to hear"Somewhere Over The Rainbow" Welcome View the pictures of my journey on http://www.picturetrail.com/olemissmrs I turned 30 on October 5th, the same day I went to the seminar at Centennial. When my husband asked me what I wanted to do for my big 3-0, I told him I wanted him to go to the seminar with me, with an open mind and I wanted him to see what I wanted. Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: Being a lawyer, I am naturally skeptical about certain situations and I had my questions typed out and ready to ask at my first visit with Dr. Houston. Not only did he answer every one, but he did so before I could ask some of them. He was funny and very nice but was extremely concerned that I did not take this decision lightly. He emphasized aftercare at the first meeting, while I was in the hospital, when I was discharged and even on the phone the day I was released. He personally returned phone calls shortly after messages were left and he addressed all my concerns. Holly was wonderful and very concerned about my understanding of the process and most of my calls and e-mails were returned within the day I sent them. Overall I would say that Dr. Houston is comitted to his patients, his practice and his desire to make beautiful people even more beautiful (making their outsides match their insides)!

Personal Comments: I am 61 years old and have been struggling with weight all my life. Have tried them all, except for surgery and some of the pills. My Internal Medicine Physician, Don Grisham of Cookeville has suggested this Lap surgery as a last resort. I had the Gastric Bypass Surgery (RNY) Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at Centennial Women's Hospital. My surgeon was Dr. Hugh Houston. I was released from the hospital on July 14, 2005 around 10 AM! I have done great! Thus far no complications! Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: Dr. Houston is wonderful! He takes as much time as needed to make sure his patient understands each type of surgery performed, what is involved and the risks taken. He is a very kind gentleman. I was given a "magic notebook" at my initial visit after the surgery had been approved. Acquaintances who had had surgery done elsewhere were not given anything as thorough as our "magic notebook" Everyone I have encountered at the Center has been most helpful. His assistant, Hollie has been wonderful! His aftercare program is extremely structured. Both his bedside manner and his surgical competence are superior! I would recommend Dr. Houston and his staff and support team with no reservations! I am,as of today, only 4 days after surgery and doing great! None of my acquaintances can believe how great I am doing! This is my third day at home!

Personal Comments: 7/4/05 My apt. is on 7/6, just 2 days away. I am so excited but at the same time nervouse. I am attending a seminar in the morning and shortly after I have my first meeting with the surgeon. My process so far has been very quick and I pray it continues in that manner. My story began about 1-2 weeks ago. I work part-time in a doctor's office. A drug-rep. had surgery done over a year ago and looks fantastic. But we had a patient come in who was 3 days post-op. Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: His office was very roomy and open. His staff was also very kind and caring. They really talked with you not to you. They are also former patients of the doctors in that office. When I met Dr.Olsen he seemed very approcable. He spent about an hour with me, describing every detail of the surgery, the whys and hows and every aspect of it. Not only did he discuss the health benifits but he also went into detail about my emotional and social life. He also stresses about WLS being a tool and I must have a lifetime change. He is very firm about his aftercare program. He was also able to tell me detail for detail about everything from the moment I enter the hospital through the next year. He was also able to answer my question about the ant. when my previous doctor either wouldn't or couldn't. He does surgery a little different and has an after diet program a lot different then my previous doctor. Before I had always had fear and reservations.
