Personal Comments: 7/4/05 My apt. is on 7/6, just 2 days away. I am so excited but at the same time nervouse. I am attending a seminar in the morning and shortly after I have my first meeting with the surgeon. My process so far has been very quick and I pray it continues in that manner. My story began about 1-2 weeks ago. I work part-time in a doctor's office. A drug-rep. had surgery done over a year ago and looks fantastic. But we had a patient come in who was 3 days post-op. Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: His office was very roomy and open. His staff was also very kind and caring. They really talked with you not to you. They are also former patients of the doctors in that office. When I met Dr.Olsen he seemed very approcable. He spent about an hour with me, describing every detail of the surgery, the whys and hows and every aspect of it. Not only did he discuss the health benifits but he also went into detail about my emotional and social life. He also stresses about WLS being a tool and I must have a lifetime change. He is very firm about his aftercare program. He was also able to tell me detail for detail about everything from the moment I enter the hospital through the next year. He was also able to answer my question about the ant. when my previous doctor either wouldn't or couldn't. He does surgery a little different and has an after diet program a lot different then my previous doctor. Before I had always had fear and reservations.

Personal Comments: Hi! I'm a 21 year old young lady from Tennessee. I had Gastric Bypass Surgery on March 23, 2005. I have had a great experience! May 2005 Oh my gosh! My surgery went fabulously! It has been a little over 2 months since I had my surgery. I feel great and energized. I started at 414lbs. and have already lost about 60lbs. I am so psyched! Dr. Hugh Houston at Centennial in Nashville is fab! Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: The day that I went to schedule my surgery, I was so nervous, but also very excited. My first impression of Dr. Houston was fabulous. He was genuinelly concerned about my health and well-being. Dr. Houston made me feel at ease from the moment he walked in the door. I liked his sense of humor and the fact that he was young and fresh. Being only twenty years old, I was scared of gastric bypass surgery, but I was even more scared that I might not see my 30th birthday at the rate I was gaining weight. Even though he informed me of the realities and risks of this surgery, he also made me feel at ease because I could tell that he was a gifted physician. After meeting and talking with him for over an hour, I totally trusted him with my life and future. I saw him one more time before my surgery, when I went to early register at the hospital the week before my surgery

Personal Comments: July 16, 2006 I have been doing awesome lately. I feel good. I have been eating correctly. I have been offering support and getting support from a host of truly fantastic bariatric buddies. I have recently acquired dumping, YEA! The best and most exciting news is that I have now lost 95 pounds. Won't be long 'til I hit the century mark. I am truly lucky to have the support system that I have. I weigh 191 pounds and have set my finish goal at 159 pounds. I have 32 more pounds to go to g...... Click here to read more Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: Dr. Dyer is a very straight forward person. He is open and blunt about what needs to happen for you to lose weight. I respect him and his advice. His office personnel are extremely helpful, kind, and caring. Dr. Dyer believes that after care is probably the most important thing about the surgery. He was upfront and blunt about the risks of the surgery as well as the possibly of gaining weight back if I failed to follow the plan. I would give Dr. Dyer, his staff, and Centennial Hospital an A++++. I wish that I was closer and could partake of the support groups in Nashville.

Personal Comments: I enjoy scrapbooking, ceramics and all kinds of arts and crafts. And unfortunately, I like food. Wait, I love food. And it's definately a love/hate relationship. My husband and I eat out. ALOT. So much that usually we don't even care where we eat, but yet, we still go, overindulge, and feel miserable afterwards. And a really big problem with us is that all of our friends love to eat. Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: Dr. Olsen was very thorough in explaining the procedure, what to expect after surgery, and what life would be like in the years to follow. He listened to all of my questions, and answered all of my questions, most of them before I even asked. I feel very confident in him as my doctor.

Personal Comments: This is the best my life has been in many years. I know this sounds like a strange statement to make at this particular time but it's very true.......I was a single Mom for 20 years. To say it was hard is an understatement. I can honestly say it made me a better person, more compassionate, understanding, caring, plus I have an extreme respect for anyone in a similar situation. Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: Myspace layouts This is very easy....Dr. Houston was exactly who I'd hoped to find when I entered his office. He was very informative, intelligent, confident, professional and 'easy on the old eyes'. Now that's a plus!!! He stressed the importance of aftercare and all of the aspects/risks of this surgery. I was impressed as he took a long time to talk to me and answer all of my questions/concerns and filling me in with what to expect. Dr. Houston, there is no charge for this advertisement : ))

Personal Comments: 8/11/2006 My file is now officially "in review" with Blue Cross. I hope and pray that everything they want and need is there, getting me approved. I started Weight Watchers after doing the low carb diet for about 2 1/2 yrs. Its so different because I am able to have foods that were a "no no" on carb diets, such as pasta, bread, and desserts. Of course I am eating the WW brands and doing the points system. Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: I met Dr. Houston at the seminar. He was filled with knowledge that seemed to just flow out. He didn't have to think about what to say; it all came so natural. I could tell that he loved his profession and felt good about helping people change their lives. *Update on Dr. Houston... he's not just a consulting surgeon in my life now. He is my surgeon and held my hand (though not literally of course) til I made it to the loser's side. I had all confidence in him and he made sure I was doing my part before allowing me to leave the hospital after surgery. He makes sure you are ready to go and that you understand the importance of drinking and protein. Cheryl was really sweet. She met me out in the lobby of the office to get all of my records and was so friendly. I was able to ask questions about the insurance process and she actually cared whether I got the approval. Holly was great, too. She tried to get the closest date possible and is so friendly.

Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: 1/23/02 Met with Dr. Olsen. The man comes highly recommended by my endocrinologist. Also, his answers, personality, skill, talent all shine. He stressed the necessity to use the tool like a tool. He discussed aftercare. All the risks were wll laid out. All the positives were reviewed. He was very, very thorough, calm, not rushed at all. I couldnt believe over an hour had passed. 1/23/03 One year later, reflecting...I would trust Dr. Olsen with my life literally. Again, Dr. Olsen's surgery is impeccable. His bedside manner needs much touching up. He is dry, serious, at times grim. However, I have some concerns and issues that seem to go unheeded. These issues are concerning his office staff and followup care and directions. I read all of his patients' followup letters here on the site. They all laud the aftercare. However, many important issues were missed with me. I found at times for his office staff to be neither supportive nor encouraging.

Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: What strikes you first about Dr. Houston is that he really knows what he is doing. Almost brings a fighter pilot type of confidence to the surgery, to the process, etc. Very competent, I have had no complications from the surgery and he has done a fantastic job. He strikes me as someone extremely busy building a practice, which affects his bedside manner a bit. Reminds me too much of myself as I run my business. So busy running things that I am not taking enough time to listen. For a person running a business, that effects employee relations. In this case, it is bedside manner. He is extremely responsive, extremely competent and I would recommend him to anyone that wants the best surgeon.
